…. “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
Perfectly “on fleek”! Have you heard of this word before?
on fleek – the quality of being perfect, or on point
You know, perfect hair, shiny white set of teeth, beautiful hair, on fleek eyebrows and not to forget a well toned body. Human standards that we are secretly and painfully trying to achieve…but are not honestly admitting. Lies that gives birth to anger, jealousy and self loathe.
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
Can you imagine Jesus saying, you are “on fleek” today? Or where there is ever a time that He thinks we are flawed? Does He love us any less if we don’t meet his expectations? What kind of expectations does he have for us?
If I were to based God’s love, expectations and approval of me on being “on fleek” and at my best self, I am going to fail right now…hands down. Messy hair, uncoordinated and color contrasting clothes and yes low self-esteem.
“You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.” John 8:15
I know –
God knows the real me.
Flawed in my eyes but perfectly unflawed in His.
Sinner I am.
Weak in spirit.
Doubting in mind and heart.
Judging in my stillness.
Lacking in love.
love and accepted by Him.
“Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we.” 2 Corinthians 10:7
